This is a dethatching blade for Kyocera (formerly Ryobi) lawn mowers. By making vertical cuts in the lawn to cut overgrown old roots and stems, the grass can begin to grow again, reviving the lawn.
The best time for dethatching is around spring when roots begin to grow. Combining it with topdressing is even more effective (not necessary for newly laid sod).
